A study carried out at Oregon Health & Science University and published in the journal Science found that rhesus macaques infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus developed antibodies and did not develop signs of disease when exposed to the virus a second time, one month after the initial infection. The study suggests that because of the large overlap between the genomic diseases that affect rhesus monkeys and those that affect humans, it is reasonable to assume that people who have previously been infected with COVID-19 will not fall ill with it again when re-exposed to the virus.
