The University of Georgia campus is closed. All non-essential projects have been suspended, and researchers have been allowed to breed lab animals only in order to preserve unique animal populations, while breeding to improve those populations has not continued. This is according to David Lee, the University of Georgia's vice president for research. The animals in the university's cattle barns and pens still receive daily care. Three studies taking place in the cattle barn are continuing, but not a single new study has begun in the pig unit, notes Francis Fluharty, head of the university's Department of Animal and Dairy Science.
