An experimental vaccine developed at the University of Oxford combines genetic material from the SARS-CoV-2 virus with parts of an adenovirus that is specific to chimpanzees. The vaccine caused almost no side effects, and it succeeded in triggering the production of antibodies and the activity of T cells in the bodies of participants in the clinical stage of the trial. Researchers recently reported these results in a paper published in The Lancet. Both a single dose and a double dose of the vaccine produced an immune response. "However, a stronger response was seen after a second dose," reports Adrian Hill, director of the Jenner Institute at Oxford.
